Although I haven’t written a new Suzy Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher review and my old one is still up, I have been to Suzy’s new place –twice actually. When I go back with better equipment other than my iPhone, I will put the new photos with a brand new review up on VegFusion. Promise!
Now that you know I have been there, I can talk about this fantastic product which I bought on my second trip; smokey rashers… This is by far the best vegan bacon I have ever had! It is so tasty you do not need any condiments or anything else. There is a great balance between smokiness and savouriness.
Each pack weighs 320 grams and the rashers are large. I mean each piece is like 15 cm wide but you could cut them into smaller strips if you want to. I bought them with the intention of wrapping them around grilled or barbecued asparagus but I ended up using them in a vegan BLT situation instead -photo below.
Here’s some other information from the pack…
• Vital wheat gluten
• Plain flour
• Savoury yeast flakes
• Yeast extract
• Smoked paprika
• White pepper
• Soy sauce (water, soy beans, wheat, salt, sodium benzoate)
• Golden syrup (cane sugar, water)
• Tomato sauce (tomatoes, sugar, salt food acids (260) and spices)
• Liquid smoke (water, wood smoke, caramel, food acid)
• Ground sesame seeds
Cooking instructions: Best cooked gently in a non-stick fry pan on medium heat with a drop of oil. Cook until crispy all over. Can be barbequed. Can be cooked from frozen.
Serving Suggestions: Great on a hot sandwich or BLT style roll. Can be used as bacon replacement in any recipe.
My Vegan BLT on lightly toasted Turkish Bread.
How to Store: Keep refrigerated, store below 5°C, can be frozen. Consume within 4 days of opening.
