The new recipe Linda McCartney’s Vegetarian Sausages new recipe are vegan friendly and made from rehydrated textured soya protein. The company recently changed their recipe by adding soy and palm oil and reducing sugar and sodium. Most people want the old style sausages back. There is even a petition for it which I have signed.

When we first found these sausages at our local supermarket (Woolworths), we were pleasantly surprised. They were different, robust, moist and full of flavour. As we all know, vegetarian sausages can be incredibly dry and unpalatable sometimes –expect for Suzy Spoon’s sausages which are never dry.

Linda McCartney’s Vegetarian Sausages have been a staple in our diet since we discovered them. They didn’t need any oil to be cooked in, they barbecued well and were absolute crowd-pleasers even among the meat eaters. But they somehow don’t turn out as crispy on the outside and hearty enough on the inside anymore. The worst of all, palm oil content of it really bothers me. Especially since orphaned baby orangutans caused by palm oil plantations in Kalimantan (Indonesian part of Borneo) is the subject of my book that I’m working on at the moment.

Rehydrated Textured Soya Protein (64%), Soya Protein Concentrate, Palm Oil, Seasoning (Sulphites) (Dextrose, Salt, Flavourings, Onion Powder, Yeast Extract, Colour: Red Iron Oxide), Rapeseed Oil, Rusk (Fortified Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour), Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Salt, Raising Agent: Ammonium Hydrogen Carbonate), Stabiliser: Methyl Cellulose; Tomato Puree, Salt.

How to store Linda McCartney’s Vegetarian Sausages

Storage instructions. Keep frozen -18°C or below. Do not refreeze once thawed.

Cooking Instructions for Linda McCartney’s Vegetarian Sausages
Cooking instructions given are for 2 sausages. For best results always cook from frozen. All cooking appliances vary; timings are to be used as a guideline only, please adjust times accordingly. Ensure food is piping hot and cooked through prior to serving. Remove outer packaging. Grill for best results.

Grill – From frozen
Preheat grill and wire rack to a moderate heat. Place sausages on the wire rack and grill for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally

Oven Cook – From frozen
Preheat oven to 180°C / Fan 160°C / Gas Mark 6. Place sausages onto a preheated baking tray and cook in the centre of the oven for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally.

  1. Please bring the original vege sausages back......they were much tastier and less dry. Please bring them back!!!!!
