We seem to be a huge fan of Gardein products and Gardein Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick’n is no exception. This one in particular has a unique flavour that we so like.
Gardein Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick’n Ingredients
Water, soy protein isolate*, vital wheat gluten*, expeller pressed canola oil*, methylcellulose, organic ancient grain flour (KAMUT® khorasan wheat, amaranth, millet, quinoa), yeast extract, potato starch, sea salt, natural flavours (from plant sources), organic cane sugar, onion powder, vinegar, garlic powder, colour added, pea protein, carrot fibre, beetroot fibre, spices, paprika and turmeric extracts, natural smoke flavour.
Batter: water, enriched wheat flour (wheat flour*, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), rice flour, modified corn starch, sugar, garlic powder, salt, spice, baking powder.
Sauce: organic cane sugar, water, soy sauce (water, soybeans*, wheat*, salt), fruit puree (water, mandarin and tangerine juice concentrate, chopped orange peels, natural flavour), corn starch*, vinegar, salted sake (water, rice, salt), expeller pressed canola oil*, ginger, garlic, spice, red chili flakes.

How to cook Gardein Mandarin Orange Crispy Chick’n
To cook the Chick’n
Oven: Preheat to 425ºF. Bake frozen chick’n pieces on a non-stick baking sheet for 15-18 mins (oven temperature may vary), until crisp and golden, turning once halfway through cooking. ln a bowl, toss heated pieces with warmed sauce and serve.
Stovetop: Heat 2 tablespoons cooking oil. in a non-stick large skillet over medium heat. Add frozen chick’n pieces and cook for 6-8 mins, turning often until crisp and golden on both sides. Do not overcrowd the frying pan. Add warmed sauce and serve.
To prepare the sauce pack
Defrost: Place pack in bowl of hot water for 3 mins to defrost.
Microwave: Open and pour sauce into microwave safe bowl. Cover and microwave for 1 to 2 mins until hot, stirring halfway through cooking.
Stovetop: Open pack and pour into small saucepan. Heat on medium heat until warm.
Tip: Let rest 1 min and serve. Cook until internal! temperature reaches minimum of 165ºF.
Meal ideas from the pack
Mandarin chick’n dinner
Prepare as above. Garnish with finely chopped green onions. Serve with rice and steamed broccoli, snow peas or your favourite vegetable and top with sesame seeds.
Mandarin orange crispy chick’n salad
Toss shredded savoy cabbage, chopped scallions, shredded carrots and cilantro in large bowl. Whisk together ¼ cup rice vinegar, ¼ cup olive or safflower oil, 1 tsp sesame oil, 2 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp maple syrup. Pour dressing over greens and toss well. Sauté 1 ½ cups thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms or white button mushrooms until tender and slightly crisp. Add salt, pepper and 1 tsp tamari and set aside. Prepare mandarin chick’n (directions above). Add warm shiitakes and chick’n to greens and serve.
