Finger Food: Toothpick Appetizers

I make these toothpick appetizers every time I have a party and add them to the rest of the finger food I serve. They really add a kind of freshness to the rest of the party food items.

Recipe Notes on Bambini Bocconcini
It took me ages to find a good quality baby bocconcini for these appetizers. I shopped pretty much everywhere and in the end, I decided that La Casa Del Formaggio brand is the best option available. It’s creamy and has non-animal rennet. The company says that this particular bocconcini size was developed by La Casa Del Formaggio for the Australian market. And, I’m glad that they did, because it is just the right size for threading on toothpicks!

What is Bocconcini anyway?
Here’s how La Casa Del Formaggio explains it:

“Bocconcini are small balls of fresh mozzarella. ‘Bambini’ Bocconcini are 5 gram sized baby balls of bocconcini. Bocconcini is a type of Pasta Filata or stretched curd, which is a delicately flavoured fresh cheese that has a texture very similar to al dente pasta. It is used to carry other flavours such as fresh herbs and extra virgin olive oil in salads. Traditionally made in Southern Italy from the milk of water buffaloes (introduced into Italy from India in the 16th century), it is now made with cow’s milk and best kept in it’s own lightly salted water. As this format was invented by La Casa Del Formaggio, we have trademarked the name “Bambini” which means “baby” in Italian!”
